tia uphoff

Tia got her first pair of ballet slippers before her third birthday. Throughout her school years she took classes in ballet, contemporary and tap. She competed in both dance and USGF Gymnastics competitions; blending the two art forms in her floor exercise choreography. Tia won many local, regional and state competitions and started teaching gymnastics to children before graduating from high school. In college, she actively participated in open lessons for both swing dance and salsa, a form of dance she came to love during her three years living in South America.
Since returning to the USA in 2006, Tia became fascinated with the graceful, rhythmic dance form of tribal bellydancing. Not only does she perform professionally as a bellydancer but has also taught classes in beginning, intermediate and advanced bellydancing, as well as cardio bellydancing since 2007. In 2010, Tia was introduced to aerial silk, a gymnastics routine performed several feet above the ground, suspended only by a delicate strip of silk fabric. She thoroughly enjoys the total body control and fitness levels achieved through her dance, aerial silk routines and poi. In 2014, Tia became nationally certified to teach Zumba and Zumba for Kids. She has taught students from preschool age through grade 5 for over 20 years in gymnastics, Spanish, dance and international “culture camps.” Tia enjoys and treasures working with the young elementary children. She is also fluent in Spanish, after living and working in Ecuador for 3 years.
In 2016, Tia decided to supplement her background and experience as a educational professional. She passed her PRAXIS exams, enrolled in graduate level education courses and taught kindergarten at a local public elementary school with a large percentage of Spanish-speaking children and parents.
In December of 2018, Tia relocated from Memphis TN, to Telluride, CO and began working at Rockies Child Care, and substituted at both Rainbow Preschool and Rascals Toddler Care. Tia began a maternity leave on August 20, 2019 and welcomed her daughter on September 2nd.
